These are Tumbler quilt patterns. A tumbler quilt is a one-block, patchwork design made from wedge or trapezoid-shaped pieces. This twist on a traditional patchwork-squares-design creates visual interest as the blocks are arranged in staggered rows, creating an interlocking pattern.
Pieces can be of varying sizes but usually the shape remains the same throughout the quilt. Cutting out the pieces can be done individually with a template, with a ruler that allows several to be cut at a time, or even with a die-cut machine. The pattern lends itself to scrappy quilts, made with many fabrics which also allows for patterns within the pattern or an over-all randomness that can create a calming feeling.
A few of the larger quilts with the small pieces were cut by Kristie Christy during the pandemic and the pieces were given to her friends to assemble as they wished.
Stop by and enjoy these wonderful quilts.
